Another writing month begins

Well, fresh from my near miss with NaNoWriMo I have got straight back to it writing wise although most of tonight was taking up on submissions. I sent four out

The Patternmaker's Daughter - 2
The Intersection - 1
Against the Fall of Empire -1

They took rather a time to get sorted but it could be worth it.

So when I started writing I was already running short on time and managed only one scene today - 608 words bring the total up to 75,772.

NaNoWriMo taught me a few things. One of which is more of a reinforcement that a new lesson but it'll do. I like lists. I like a certain order. So I have decided I am going to keep a log of daily writing in terms of word count and books/stories being written. How sad is that? Never mind, it will keep me happy. So I have a new spreadsheet and the first day's entry is logged.

Anyway for anyone who is interested - here's my chart for November (warning - it will be very dull reading)

Good to read about your process, Edmund. Glad you're sending things out! Fingers crossed you get some acceptances back. I'm intrigued with your novel project!

By the novel project - do you mean the bawdy sci-fi noir detective story, with creative expletives, set on a space station?

In horror movie-land sequels are pretty much a par for the course. You make a good horror film, it seems it only makes sense to go back and milk the idea a second time. In the world of horror books (note - not dark fantasy or paranormal romance, I mean HORROR) this has been less common. I'm not saying they don't exist - Graham Masterton's Manitou and James Herbert's Rats both started series - and sure you get books set in a repeated environs - take Gary Braunbeck's Cedar Hill short stories and novels, and Stephen King's version of Maine. But straight sequels, picking up the action from the end of the prior book or soon after, haven't filled the shelves in bookstores. 19 Days - some boasts, some general

Okay, it's been a while since my last post. I could claim one excuse or another for not posting to this blog more often. And in reality the reasons I would give are not just excuses but true. I mentioned in an earlier post my mother dying over Christmas. This has left a lot of processing - sorting out her house, funerals, cancelling paper deliveries, chaning utilities etc. And then there's the emptying of her house... On top of all this there is the flu that has been plaguing my life since Christmas Day, one week of feeling really ill then lurking in the background with occasional ickiness repeats. And then there's the fact I've been trying to concentrate on writing a novel, which isn't going too badly - up to 14,500 words and an aim to get over 80,000 by the end of March - yeah I know it's tight but I need to set deadlines so I will get on with it. Attempts at regaining the writing saddle

Anyone who has been reading my earlier postings here and on twitter knows I have been going through a difficult patch in my writing over the past few weeks and months. When my wife had her mini-stoke earlier this year writing was irrelevant. Everything was. Now she is recovered I have chance to pick it up again only I'm finding I'm a different person to this time last year. The novel I was writing back in December/January that is maybe three quarters done does not interest me . Maybe this is because that's what I was writing when... I don't know. All I know is try as I might that is not happening. So I needed something else to try. And then when that failed something else...and something else...and something else again. Being honest the only thing that has gone okay since January - at least okay enough to see my type "The End" - was another Ben Williamson novella, called Room 1B. Now this is not a bad thing as I have had the first two of these publish...
